one and one and one

Autonomy. Influence. Fracture to inevitable singularity.

The difficulty of narrative. Simplifying choreography to focus on weight, unison moving that wants to separate from togetherness and momentum. A radical experiment using dance to speak to a choreographic award within an avante-garde setting. 

One and one and one was influenced by the history of performance poets such as Ginsberg and artists like Patti Smith. The work began as an experiment with two forms that do not often (if ever) meet in a contemporary dance setting.  How do abstract movement and language of the political poet meet? Is this even possible when language seems to dominate and prescribe, want its own space; and movement protests against being narrated or made to mean any one thing? A capsule of a work trying to ask questions  through dance about much beyond dance itself - from the sphere of the socio-political. A turgid and difficult work to make and perform. A lesson in how the world wants to emote and not.
